Budget 2022 News Live Updates:
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the 2022 economic survey in Lok Sabha on Monday. She is expected to appear at the Rajya Sabha around 2:40 p.m. and later, newly named CEA V Anantha Nageswaran will address a press briefing. Advance estimates suggest that the Indian economy is set to see real GDP expansion of 9.2% in 2021-22 after contracting in 2020-21. With the vaccination program having covered most of the population, economic momentum picking up and the likely long-term benefits of ongoing supply-side reforms, the Indian economy is well positioned to witness a GDP growth of 8.0 to 8.5%. in 2022-23.
Earlier, the Parliament’s Union budget session kicked off on Monday with Speaker Ram Nath Kovind’s speech to the joint sitting of the two chambers in the central hall. Later, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the 2021-22 economic survey on Monday and the Union budget on Tuesday. The economic study will be tabled separately by FM Sitharaman in both houses and as per Rajya Sabha’s schedule it will be presented at around 2.40pm today. The budget session that begins today is the sixth to be held since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020. The 2020 budget session has been shortened by eight sessions and the 2021 budget session has been shortened by 10 sessions.
