Jakarta (ANTARA) – Promoting trade and investment is an important part of efforts to accelerate economic recovery, which is why countries in the Pacific region need to work more closely together.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mahendra Siregar made the statement during the 2021 Pacific Expo closing press conference, which was accessed from Jakarta on Saturday.

“With the pace of globalization, we need to ensure that our position in the global supply chain is appropriate to achieve economic benefits,” he said.

The four-day Pacific Expo 2021 was held to promote trade cooperation among countries in the Pacific region. It featured several discussion forums and business matchmaking.

The event generated a number of potential business transactions, totaling up to US $ 104 million (about Rs 1.48 trillion) through business-oriented activities, he noted.

Siregar said that besides economic recovery, the involvement of countries in the common economy also serves as a basis for climate change, environmental sustainability and disaster mitigation.

He also stressed the importance of sustainable development supported by technology.

“Technology plays an important role in supporting the development of a blue and green economy so that it can be done by every Pacific island nation. This can be achieved by strengthening collaboration in technical cooperation and capacity building, ”he said.

He further stated that he believed all stakeholders should use the established platform to strengthen engagement with all those in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

“For Indonesia itself, we are committed to bringing the situation in the Pacific to the attention of the world, including through our G20 Chairmanship in 2022, the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023, and our role in various regional and international forums, ”he added. added the minister.
